Summer course | Javanese Herbalism: The Science and Art of Ancient Medications – Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta Indonesia

In the Eastern tradition, medicine is regarded as the science and art. Surakarta Royal Palace, is well known as the center of development of Javanese ancient medications where the knowledge and wisdom of Javanese medications were preserved in ancients manuscripts.
The theme of the summer course will be to examine the practice of Javanese ancient medicinal production as well as their historical backgrounds. The course will also provide you with the hands-on and specialized skills in the discovery of new natural products from natural resources as well as their derivative uses especially in the health including cosmetics and foods sectors.
In our summer course, together we will visit beautiful ancient villages, from mountain to sea to explore about Jamu (Javanese ancient medicines). In this 7 days course you will be able to work in collaboration with experienced practitioners, industry experts, and academic researchers. The curriculum is also designed to create cultural and academic environments which accommodates the problem-solving practice of natural resources production in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food industries.
This course is suitable for anyone, you only need enthusiasm.
Tuition fees and payment:
On campus accommodation (Pesma Mas Mansyur): USD 400 (international students) and IDR 3.500.000 for local students.
